In December of 1887, the US government established the Two Lights Life-Saving Station at Dyer Cove. Initially staffed by a team of about 6 surfmen–usually local farmers and fishermen–the Life-Saving Station patrolled the coast especially during treacherous weather for ships. The history of the station is filled with stories of courage and humor alike.
Join us to find out about this remarkable service, which was transferred to South Portland by the U. S. Coast Guard in 1964 and served as the forerunner to today’s Cape Elizabeth WETeam life-saving service.
All are welcome!
