Fika (coffee break)

Thursday, March 21 -- 10:00 am - 11:00 am

“Fika is a concept, a state of mind, an attitude and an important part of Swedish culture. Many Swedes consider that it is almost essential to make time for fika every day. It means making time for friends and colleagues to share a cup of coffee (or tea) and a little something to eat.”John Duxbury, Swedishfood.com

When physical distancing was necessary during the global pandemic, we began this virtual group to help people make essential social connections, and we have kept it up ever since! Come take a daily virtual coffee break with folks near and far to share thoughts and ideas, stories and laughter, and gain different perspectives. Since it’s inception, Fika has welcomed attendees from around Cape Elizabeth and from all across the country for friendly, no pressure morning conversation, and we’d love for you to stop in and see us some time. Join us anytime Wednesday through Saturday at 10 AM (Eastern Time) / 9 AM (Central Time) for coffee, tea, and engaging conversation  – no agenda, just connecting with other kind, curious and friendly human beings. Please register below and we’ll email you a link and instructions on how to join us via Zoom! Hosted by Thomas Memorial Library (Weds–Sat) and Evanston Public Library (Mon-Tues).

“Functioning as both a verb and a noun, the concept of fika is simple. It is the moment that you take a break, often with a cup of coffee, but alternatively with tea, and find a baked good to pair with it. You can do it alone, you can do it with friends. You can do it at home, in a park or at work. But the essential thing is that you do it, that you make time to take a break: that’s what fika is all about.” -from The Art of the Swedish Coffee Break, by Anna Brones and Johanna Kindvall
